Description:
Each PROFINET device is addressed via its globally unique MAC address. This MAC address is made up of a company code (bits 24 ... 47) as an OUI (Organizationally Unique Identifier) and a consecutive number (bits 0 ... 23), which can be used to identify up to 16,777,214 products. The OUI is assigned to each company by the IEEE Standards Department. PI has been assigned the OUI 00-0E-CF.
PI provides 4k ranges of PI's OUI to all device manufacturers who do not wish to apply for their own OUI.
MAC addresses derived from PI's OUI may only be used for certified PROFINET devices!
PROFINET devices must be certified!
