Description:

The engineering, maintenance and diagnosis is an important part of industrial plants and automation systems. Because different languages are spoken in different countries there are requirements for the use of the characters used for naming and naming purposes. PROFINET standardizes stations together with controller and device functionality. Engineering tools are not standardized. Thus, rules or rulesets are needed.

The document contains some important topics with focus to engineering tools and their use cases. The main focuses are on rule sets and requirements for the classification of engineering systems (PLC, Supervisor, diagnosis software, …), namespaces, rule sets for device access, the required resources, and best practice patterns, as well as security features requirements, and GSD behavior.
