CERTIFIED PROFINET Engineer

This training course provides a detailed technical knowledge of the PROFINET technology and the advantages it offers your automation and production processes.To attend the remaining Engineer course, you must have completed the CPNI and PNCM courses. This remaining part covers the PROFINET standard, operation and system design. At the end of the training, there will be a theory exam. Participants who pass get the title Certified PROFINET Engineer and are awarded an official certificate. Successful participants will have the confidence to evaluate PROFINET as a solution for their automation requirements and be able to design a proper application. 

NB: To attend the Certified PROFINET Engineer course, you must complete and pass the CPNI course and also attend the PNCM course. The remaining days cover PROFINET standard, operation and system design and include a certification assessment for the Certified PROFINET Engineer qualification.

Content:

Day 1: CPNI - Certified PROFINET Installer

Day 2: PNCM - PROFINET Commissioning and Maintenance

Day 3:

  • Ethernet Basics – Standards and Protocols relevant to PROFINET
  • Switch Functions and Conformance Classes
  • PROFINET Standard and Operation
  • PROFINET RT and IRT
  • System Timing – PLC Scans, IO-Device Update Time and Performance
  • Practical Sessions – Network Configuration and Parameterisation
  • Practical Sessions – Data monitoring with Wireshark
  • Tutorial, Part 1 – Questions and Answers

Day 4:

  • PROFINET System Design
  • Network Load and Bandwidth
  • Practical Sessions – Network Debugging and troubleshooting
  • Practical Sessions – Data Packets Capturing and Decoding using Protocol Analyser (Wireshark and Netilities, etc.) 
  • Design Documents, Acceptance Tests and Qualification
  • Tutorial, Part 2 – Questions and Answers. Revision and Preparation for Examination
  • Examination – Practical Test (1 hour) and Theory Test (2 hours)

Other details:

Duration: 9:30 – 16:30 (CPNI, PNCM and 3rd day of CPNE). 9:00 – 16:30 (4th day of CPNE).

About PROFINET Training Courses at MMU PITC (from May 2019)

PROFINET is established and growing rapidly, particularly in the context of Industry 4.0 and now the process industries. It’s time to join the growing list of Certified PROFINET Installers and Engineers registered with PROFIBUS & PROFINET International! Our PROFINET training is structured to meet a variety of needs. Please see the diagram provided here. 

 

For electricians and installers, the one-day PI Certified PROFINET Installer course is essential and its qualification is part of the legal requirements in many PROFINET projects. The one-day PROFINET Commissioning & Maintenance (PNCM) course is not a PI certified course but very important in understanding of PROFINET applications and engineering practice. The course builds on our successful PROFIBUS Commissioning and Maintenance course and is an integral part of the Certified PROFINET Engineer course.

 

CPNI and PNCM can be booked separately. However, to attend PNCM, one has to complete CPNI. 

After the initial 2-day training, many will go on to complete their training to achieve the Certified PROFINET Engineer (CPNE) qualification. Note that CPNI and PNCM are an integral part of CPNE. 

Training Material & Equipment:

Students on the course work in pairs, each with a laptop PC running PROFINET. Each pair has a dedicated rack of PROFINET devices – see details below. Each person receives colour printed training notes and a workbook. 

Before attending the courses, students will receive a copy of the textbook, “PROFINET in Practice – Installation, Maintenance and System Engineering” for advanced preparation and revision. 

  • Siemens S7-300 PLC with integrated PROFINET IO Controller. Engineering Tools are SIMATIC Manager and Proneta.
  • IO-Devices are from a number of companies including Wago, Phoenix Contact and Siemens.
  • Switches are of Phoenix Contact and Siemens.
  • IO-Supervisor/Monitor is PROCENTEC Netilities.
  • Protocol Analyser is Wireshark.
  • Ethernet cable testers
  • Shield current testers
  • Shield impedance testers
