PI's industrial networking solutions are based on two technologies: PROFIBUS and PROFINET.

First developed in 1989 PROFIBUS has become the world's most successful fieldbus with more than 35,000,000 installed nodes and global support. PROFINET is based on Ethernet used in offices with enhancements, e.g. for real-time capability, needed in industrial applications. PROFINET is accepted in a wide range of applications with more than 3,000,000 installed nodes. PROFINET is an available network solution that embraces PROFIBUS - and other fieldbuses - easily as well a integrating tightly with IT systems and making enterprise management more efficient.
