With 900,000 devices added in 2010, PROFINET has now reached an installed base of 3 million. PI is very pleased about this trend, which confirms that its decision to develop PROFINET for a wide range of applications was correct.

The Chinese New Year celebration in February 2011 marked the end of the “Year of the Tiger”. This also coincided with an important milestone for PROFINET. Joerg Freitag, Chairman of PROFIBUS & PROFINET International (PI) is pleased to report: “Today we are able to issue the first certificate for a Tiger chip TPS-1 product for conformance classes A, B, and C to Gunnar Lessmann, Project Manager TPS-1 Development of Phoenix Contact.”

At the Hannover Fair 2011 the PROFINET technology was presented with a new, interactive multivendor demo wall. This PROFINET wall (pictured) demonstrated the wide ranging scope of the products now available as well as the globalized nature of the vendor base. By backlighting the individual devices different characteristics like product type or profile could be assigned to these devices easily and vividly.
