PI has established a qualified certification system for PROFIBUS devices. In officially authorised PI Test Laboratories (
PITLs) devices are tested for conformance with the PROFIBUS Specifications and Guidelines as well as interoperability with devices from other manufacturers. Devices successfully passing the tests are awarded a certificate by PI and may then use the PROFIBUS logo.
A Certificate is much more than a marketing argument: it stands for the quality of a product. Many end-users only use certified products. Thus, a certificate is often the reason why a product is chosen. Currently, several hundred PROFIBUS products are certified.

Tips
The better you and your device are prepared for the test, the faster and smoother the test will be:
- Register your PROFIBUS or PROFINET device at PI in due time and have the confirmation available for the check at the Test Laboratory in order to avoid delays.
- Edit the Device Description Files (e.g. GSD-Files) in accordance with the valid Guidelines in order to avoid any errors.
- Carefully prepare a complete set of the required documentation.
- Clarify all questions in advance.
You may be present during the test. After the test the manufacturer gets a test report which is then, together with an application for a certificate, sent to the PI Certification Office.
Certified Devices can be easily identified in our
Product Guide.
