THE NEXT STEP IN OUR CAMPAIGN TO REACH 10 MILLION FOR PROFINET!
This email 'alert' introduces you to the first in our new series of PROFINEWS newsletters. We will now publish PROFINEWS every three weeks so that you can receive more frequent updates about PROFINET and PROFIBUS from the PI organization. Each 'alert' will contain a brief summary of the stories in the main newsletter (see below) together with links to the full story for any item that catches your interest. The full issue will still be available in the normal way from the PI web site.
Having more frequent updates means we can keep you abreast of major events such as fairs and conferences more easily. We'll still have news from PI, as well as items from the 27 Regional PI Associations around the world. New products from member companies will also be covered as usual.
We'll also be circulating to a far broader, global, audience as we drive PROFINET up the same growth curve as PROFIBUS. This means that if you are a PI member company you'll get faster access to a huge market for your new product launches. Our target for PROFINET is 10,000,000 nodes, which we aim to reach in 2014. Why not join this global effort and help us achieve our '10 by 14' target?
So, more news more often, from the leading fieldbus organization in the world, right to your fingertips in a format that makes it quick and easy to access. What better way of staying in touch with the best in fieldbus and Industrial Ethernet? Enjoy!
Jörg Freitag, Chairman, PI.

SEE THE BEST IN AUTOMATION AT SPS/IPC/DRIVES
Once again, SPS/IPC/DRIVES will become the focus of attention for the automation world when the 2011 event opens in Nuremberg, Germany, November 23rd - 25th. A record attendance is expected and the event will be be bigger and more international than ever before. PI will be exhibiting on Booth 210, Hall 6, where you'll find displays and demonstrations of PROFINET and PROFIBUS products, plus PROFIsafe, PROFIdrive, IO-Link and wireless technologies. A meeting/hospitality area is included so it will be an ideal place to meet customers and chat informally to PI experts. A special feature this year will be an 'automotive' racing simulator promoting PROFIenergy where visitors to the booth will be able to drive racing cars at high speed to win prizes.
This year, SPS/IPC/DRIVES 2011 will cover 12 exhibition halls (a first!) and have more than 100,000 sqm of exhibition space. Say the organizers: "It promises to provide the most comprehensive overview of electric automation related products and solutions ever." More than 50.000 visitors are likely to attend, about 20 % from abroad. The complete SPS/IPC/DRIVES 2011 conference program comprises 69 seminars, one trend session and three tutorials. Don't miss it - it may be the most important automation event you'll have access to in 2011. Don't forget to visit PI at Booth 210, Hall 6. More from the organizers here.
MASTERS DEGREE INCLUDES PROFINET/PROFIBUS ENGINEER CERTIFICATION
Manchester Metropolitan University in the UK is launching the new MSc programme in September 2012 to reflect the fast growing field-level networking and Ethernet-based technologies that are penetrating to factories and manufacturers. The new Master programme will reflect the evolution from infrastructures comprising islands of instruments and sub-systems to one of networked smart devices and systems. The course offers successful students accreditation as Certified PROFIBUS Engineer and Certified PROFINET Engineer in addition to an MSc in Industrial Communication and Automation.
The programme will cover protocols, plus network design, diagnosis and deployment for fieldbuses and industrial ethernet technologies. More general automation topics will also be included, such as object-orientated automation programming, programmable logic controller programming languages, graphic interface design and embedded systems. power electronics, communications and management systems (covering quality, environmental, safety systems, and team working skills and project management.) AROUND THE WORLD
27 Regional PI Associations represent PI around the world. These promote PROFINET, PROFIBUS and associated technologies globally and offer educational, training and expert help locally. Here's a summary of news from this global Community.
China (top left): During July and September 2011, PI China organized a series of road shows about PROFIBUS/PROFINET certification, product development and technology updates in Beijing, Shanghai and Shenzhen, for users, integrators and engineering companies. An average of 130 people attended. In addition, PROFIBUS DP/PA and PROFINET multi-vendor demonstration systems with products from members were demonstrated. PI China
India (center left): PROFIBUS/PROFINET Roadshows were conducted by the Indian PROFIBUS PROFINET Association (IPA) at Baroda and Pune in September 2011. Mr. Dileep Miskin, secretary IPA, talked about the advantages of PROFINET over other communication platforms in various working areas. Mr. Prasad Raverkar (at Baroda) and Mr. Milind Kulkarni (at Pune) spoke on the innovation potential of PROFINET. IPA participated in Automation 2011 at Mumbai in September. The event was inaugurated by Dr. Peter Wenzel, Executive Director of PI. IPA won the 'Best Stall Award' in the Special Category. IPA
