Two ways of using PROFINET are available – PROFINET IO, which has similarities with PROFIBUS DP - and PROFINET CBA – which employs a modular, component-based approach to make design, engineering and commissioning extremely simple for larger systems, especially where functions are replicated across machines or a range of machines.
