Water management board Hunze & Aa,s revamps river water treatment plant using PROFIBUS PA

Early in 2007, the water management board Hunze & Aa’s in Tweede Exloermond
(The Netherlands) completely revamped its river water treatment plant
and introduced PROFIBUS as high performance communication technology.

The installation is based on a PROFIBUS DP/PA network comprising a PLC,
and various analyzers, level controllers and actuators from Beckhoff, Vega, Endress+Hauser, Hach Lange, Siemens et al. The plant is unmanned, remote
control is provided from the central control room in Veendam via internet.
Also maintenance engineers can monitor remotely whether the plant runs properly.
In case of malfunction maintenance support is called via SMS.

The project has been realized by Croon TBI Techniek in Apeldoorn. It fully meets the users expectations.

Major advantages and benefits
of the PROFIBUS installation are
- Conventional corrective maintenance can be replaced by the much more
efficient preventive maintenance due to the diagnostic features of PA devices
- Maintenance can be better planned and plant availability increases
- Energy savings are possible through energy consumption monitoring
via PROFIBUS
- The user can 'look' into the PROFIBUS PA devices to get information
about the actual status
