Profile

The demo system at the PICC is a high speed automation line that demonstrates PCB board inspection and sorting. The automation line is controlled using the PROFIBUS DP network. The devices on the PROFIBUS DP network include: 6 axes servo controller for positioning of the PCB and for transfer, stepper controllers for width adjustment of the conveyor system, inverters for speed control and digital I/Os for sequencing.

The new fault tolerant system with redundant PROFIBUS DP connection to I/O is a hot standby system to demonstrate control system reliability for critical operation. The standby CPU is fully synchronised with the active unit, and transfer of control in the event that the active unit goes down is instantaneous and transparent to the process. Apart from CPU redundancy the system also provides redundancy on the communication bus to its I/Os. The PROFIBUS DP links both CPUs to the remote I/Os via separate DP lines.
