At the end of March, PROFINET IO became an official IEC specification upon overwhelming approval of the IEC member countries.

PROFINET IO has the status of a prestandard (PAS, Publicly Available Specification). This IEC/PAS prestandard with the title “Real-Time Ethernet PROFINET IO” is expected to become a standard (IS, International Standard) in the new edition of IEC 61158 Ed.4 and IEC 61784-2 Ed.1 in 2007. In addition to PROFINET CBA, PROFINET IO is now also standardized in the IEC.
