The PROFIBUS Group will be supporting Process Engineering Live at Manchester Central on the 10th and 11th March 2009 where we will be presenting a tutorial entitled ?System Design using PROFIBUS and other technologies" to be delivered by Andy Verwer, Principal Lecturer at The PROFIBUS International Competence Centre at Manchester Metropolitan University.
The Group will also be showing on stand number 101 a multi-vendor process automation system developed by experts from the PROFIBUS International Competence Centre.
The tutorial is derived from a course that has been developed specifically because many of the errors that are seen in modern automation system installations are traceable to fundamental decisions that are taken at the early stages of the project. For example, use of inappropriate fieldbus for an application, lack of awareness of maintenance and fault-finding facilities, over-complex or inappropriate system architecture, design decisions based on equipment purchasing cost rather than whole life-cycle costs etc.
The paper deals with the overall architecture of the control system and how to use different technologies appropriately to design an optimised system that is reliable, maintainable and flexible for future expansion and modification.
More about Process Engineering Live
Today?s uncertain economic climate is forcing everyone to re assess their plant operations, to make sure they are running and continue to run an efficient cost effective plant. Process Engineering Live is the perfect opportunity to address theses critical issues in industry today and asses new technologies and suppliers that can help you achieve your objectives for 2009 and in the future. It's objectives are to help plant owners and operators to:
? Increase efficiency whilst lowering costs
? Avoid unnecessary down time
? Reduce waste and identify new plant efficiencies
? Improve equipment reliability and information visibility
? Get up to date with the latest regulation and compliance
? Tackle skills shortages with an innovative professional development programme
The event features a FREE conference programme with sessions focusing on:
? Process Improvement
? Asset Management
? Energy and Environment
? People and Skills
As well as Andy Verwer representing PROFIBUS, there will be a number of specialist industry speakers including:
? Amy Elliott Peace of Chemicals Northwest
? Paul Wiggins, of the Environment Agency
? John Holland, Training Manager, United Biscuits
