Following conclusion of the specification work for PROFIenergy, PROFIBUS & PROFINET International (PI) has now completed the related test specification and test system functionality for certification. The certification tests of the energy management functions will take place in the PI Test Labs accredited for PROFINET.
The PROFIenergy profile provides the basis for a coordinated and standardized procedure for energy management of plants with PROFINET functionality. A range of products of different manufacturers are already available. To ensure interoperability when executing energy management functions from the outset, PI began work on establishing certification as soon as the specification work was finished. The corresponding test specification, test cases, and test system implementation have been completed, and the first products have already passed the certification tests. As is the case for PROFINET devices, PROFIenergy devices must also be certified by an accredited PI Test Lab. Dr. Peter Wenzel, Executive Director of PI Germany, handed out the first two PROFIenergy certificates for devices manufactured by Siemens at SPS/IPC/DRIVES 2010.
With PROFIenergy, equipment can be be switched off not only during idle times, such as weekends and holidays. Rather, it is also possible to switch off individual equipment components or entire systems during brief pauses and even during unscheduled pauses. In addition, the recording, transmission, and format of measured energy values is specified – this provides an important basis for active energy management.
An exhibit at the PI booth at SPS/IPC/DRIVES (Hall 6, Booth 210) will feature the first PROFIenergy pilot plant with live demonstrations of operating principles and user benefits.
