In this section you'll find several sets of downloadable files, ranging from simple forms to join PI to executables to help you engineer and commission PROFIBUS and PROFINET devices. Much of it is free, although to get some files you'll need to join PI to gain access. The 'key' icon tells you which file needs a password.
The PROFIBUS application profile "PROFIsafe - Profile for Saftey Technology"
describes the mechanisms for safe communications between fail-safe
peripherals and fail-safe controllers. It is based on the requirements of
the standards and directives for safety-oriented applications like IEC 61508
and EN954-1 as well as on the experience of the fail-safe device
manufacturers and the PLC manufacturers community.
This version supersedes its former draft version 1.0 that was
published for review in 1999, the version 1.11 from July 2001,
and the version 1.20 from October 2002.

New developments based on PROFIsafe Profile V1.3 blocked
The first versions V1.x of the PROFIsafe Profile (V1-Mode) can be run in pure PROFIBUS environments only. The up to date version of these profiles is V1.3. With the publication of the PROFINET IO specification, the PROFIsafe Profile was extended for the use in Ethernet-based PROFINET environments (Versions V2.x, V2-Mode). The up to date version of these profiles is V2.4. This version covers both pure PROFIBUS or pure PROFINET operation and mixed operation.
Based on the suggestion of the PROFIsafe Marketing WG and thus supporting further technological progress, the PNO Advisory Board decided to block the PROFIsafe profile V1.3 for new product developments. This profile version remains valid for devices which are already introduced in the market.
The following regulations and timeframe apply:
1. New devices / new developments shall support V2 mode in addition to V1 mode.
2. Existing devices shall be upgraded to V2 mode at the next occasion.
3. After July 1, 2012, new certificates will be issued only for devices supporting V2 mode.
4. Follow up certificates for unchanged existing devices can be obtained without limitation in time. For devices with PROFIsafe relevant modifications, after July 1, 2012, follow up certificates will be granted only if the devices include V2 mode.
