In this section you'll find several sets of downloadable files, ranging from simple forms to join PI to executables to help you engineer and commission PROFIBUS and PROFINET devices. Much of it is free, although to get some files you'll need to join PI to gain access. The 'key' icon tells you which file needs a password.
While automation solutions with distributed I/O gained widely acceptance through PROFIBUS DP and the newly introduced PROFINET IO, fail-safe applications were still relying on a second layer of conventional electrical techniques or special busses thus limiting the seamless engineering and interoperability. Additionally modern fail-safe devices such as scanners or drives with integrated safety could not be fueled up as needed due to missing system support. It is the purpose of the PROFIsafe specifications and related documents to provide the corresponding enabling technologies.
The specific utilization of the communication functions by specific groups of participants is called a profile. A profile is a set of rules and definitions that are valid within a group of users or a family of field devices. The Safety Profile, in short PROFIsafe, describes the communications between fail-safe peripherals and fail-safe controllers. It is a supplementary technology for standard PROFIBUS DP and PROFINET IO reducing the failure or error probability of the data transmission between a fail-safe controller and a fail-safe device to the level required by the relevant standards, or better.
Important notes
The extensions to the CDV of the standard IEC 61784-3-3 such as iPar-Server, Wireless transmission, and security have been developed by the WG5 within TC3 of PROFIBUS & PROFINET International (PI). A PI review of these parts has been passed by January 15th, 2007. The results of the worldwide IEC review and an IEC meeting by end of January 2007 (only editorial comments) had been incorporated in a version 2.3 and reviewed by the working group on February 14th, 2007. The results of this meeting are incorporated in this final version 2.4. All related change requests are available on the PI project server.
This PNO-Specification V2.4 replaces the officially released version V2.0 (September 2005).
The mandatory clause "Management summary – scope of this document" for PNO documents is covered by the clauses "INTRODUCTION" and "Scope".
Known patents are listed in clause "INTRODUCTION".
IEC rules do not permit the request for certification. However, the PROFIsafe policy in PI requires test and certification of PROFIsafe devices. The corresponding requirements are specified in "PROFIsafe – Test Specification for F-Slaves, F-Devices, and F-Hosts", V2.1, March 2007, Order No. 2.242.
The part a provides an overview on safety communication issues and may be necessary as a precondition for the profile specific parts such as IEC 61784-3-3 (PROFIsafe).
The profil specific part b contains the substantial specifications of the original PNO document PROFIsafe V2.0, albeit in a different order and without introductory parts that were moved to the common part IEC 61784-3.
