An essential course for electrical engineers and technicians needing to upgrade their skills to include fieldbus installation. (Also available on-site for up to 12)
This one-day, hands-on course teaches the design, installation and testing of complete PROFIBUS networks including DP/FMS, PA and optical fibre technology. Covering bus layout and termination, grounding rules and practices, the course will teach delegates how to avoid common, but potentially expensive, installation problems. The course provides theoretical and practical training in PROFIBUS network technology using a hands-on approach. The course finishes with multiple-choice and practical tests that ensure the competence of the trainees. Successful candidates will be awarded Certified PROFIBUS Installer status.
The training provided by this course is an essential requirement for companies who are engaged in fieldbus installation. Certified PROFIBUS Installers are the first step to achieving reliable and trouble-free fieldbus systems.
Course Content
Overview of PROFIBUS network technology
PROFIBUS DP wiring guidelines

A sample of comments from previous attendees:
- "Excellent course. Recommended to anyone who is involved in fieldbus installation."
- "For one day we covered much more than I would have expected."
- "The course was excellent and added much of value to my PROFIBUS experience."
- "It is imperative that installers of PROFIBUS networks attend this course"
What’s new?
Since 2010, cable sheath materials and properties, ingress projection, and PROFIBUS DP layout with PROFIBUS hubs are added.Who should attend the course?
The course is not just for installers. It is applicable for anyone who is involved in the planning, design, layout, installation, and commissioning of PROFIBUS networks. Although centred on the most widely used fieldbus technology, PROFIBUS, most of the course is equally applicable to other fieldbus technologies. No prior knowledge of fieldbus systems is required. However, even very experienced fieldbus engineers who have previously attended the course say that they have gained valuable knowledge on how to avoid problems. The course is specified by many companies across a wide range of industries as a pre-requisite for anyone working on PROFIBUS systems. The course is also now a pre-requisite for attending the Certified PROFIBUS Engineer course. Why bother with Certified Installation training?
Fieldbus, and particularly PROFIBUS, provides reliable and cost-effective technology for a wide range of instrumentation and control equipment used in manufacturing, storage, building and process industries. However, fieldbus installation is fundamentally different from other types of electrical installation because it uses high-speed digital communications. When problems are encountered, they are invariably caused by simple errors in layout, cabling or connections. With certified training, such problems can be avoided at the outset, rather than after the installation is complete, when correction may require expensive re-routing or re-wiring. The Certified PROFIBUS Installer Course gives a widely recognised and valued qualification that confirms the competence of trainees in the layout and installation of PROFIBUS DP and PA networks.Details

New!
Certified PROFIBUS Installer - Distance Learning System
Now there's a new way to study for the Certified PROFIBUS Installer course! The PROFIBUS International Competence Centre at Manchester Metropolitan University has introduced Distance Learning using the Moodle on-line system.
Distance Learning enables candidates to study the course content at their own pace, taking the final assessment only when ready. For reasons of accreditation integrity, the exams still need to be taken at MMU, but the time spent at MMU is reduced to an afternoon and candidates can be thoroughly prepared with a reasonable expectation of passing.
A. Online content
The course is divided into 8 topics/aspects:
1: Introduction to PROFIBUS
2: Grounding, Shielding and Cable Segregation
3: Cables, Connectors and Wiring Test
4: Practical session: build a cable, wiring test and fault-finding
5: Reflections and Termination
6: Network Topology and Segmentation
7: Spot the Errors
8: Quizzes
These topics are powerpoint shows in a movie format containing a large number of graphics.
B. Learning methods
1. After registration, students receive handouts in the post. The handouts book is also for them to make their own notes while watching the movies.
2. There are questions and quizzes after each movie and students are required to answer them. Their answers are marked.
3. Once their average mark exceed the pass mark of 70%, they are invited for assessment at MMU.
C. Running procedure
1. Students are expected to enroll by the 1st of the month in which the course and exams are to be taken.
2. After receipt of payment (or official order for companies with approved accounts), the handouts book is issued and a registered on-line student account is activated on or around the 10th of the month,
3. Students are expected to complete the online questions and quizzes by the 15th of that month giving them 5 days to go through the course.
3. After succeeding online, students attend MMU for assessment on the next available scheduled course, usually around the 20th of the month.
D. Assessment at MMU
1. 13:15 - 13:30 registration and reception
2. 13:30 - 14:20 Practical session, tutorial, questions and answers
3. 13:20 - 14:30 Break
4. 14:30 - 15:00 Practical test
5: 15:00 - 15:45 Theory test
6. 16:00 finish
This provides 3 hours of contact time.
If you are interested to partipate in one of these Distance Learning courses, please in the first instance contact Ann Squirrell on +44 207 193 8018 or email admin@uk.profibus.com to discuss available dates.
