PI is the organization responsible for PROFIBUS and PROFINET, the two most important enabling technologies in automation today.
PI operates through the PI Support Center (PISC) based in Karlsruhe, Germany, and coordinates the activities of a network of REGIONAL PI ASSOCIATIONS (RPAs) in major industrialized countries. Currently there are 27 RPAs, and there are over 1400 members worldwide making PI the largest automation organization of its kind.
Each RPA acts independently to support PROFIBUS and PROFINET in its own region. Exhibitions, fairs, seminars, workshops and conferences are the primary ways of achieving this. Localized presence and web-based marketing are increasingly used to support these in countries around the world.
PI also supports a global network of engineering and training services:
- PI Competence Centers, or PICCS, who deliver quality technical support to developers and users of PROFIBUS and PROFINET products and systems. Currently there are 44 PICCs in 25 countries.
- PI Test Labs, or PITLs, which provide test and certification services to guarantee the quality and performance of PROFIBUS and PROFINET products. Currently there are 11 PITLs.
- PI Training Centers, or PITCs, which deliver high-quality training to engineers and users. Currently, there are 26 PITCs.
